Most of the locals would eat rice regularly as their main dish – breakfast, lunch and in dinner. Actually, majority of the Indonesians would feel that they didn’t eat a good meal unless they have rice on the table.
These people eat rice a lot! A typical lunch of the locals would be a rice full plate with a piece of chicken or fish or eggs maybe and ‘sambal’ – a popular chilli souce. Indonesians love to eat spicy foods – superbly HOT foods. But on the contrary, coriander is the most used spice in Indonesian’s kitchen. Other spices used are the following: ginger, cumin and other spices. Most of their foods are prepared in rather contrasting flavors like hot sauce, spicy sweet on plain rice.
Their common method of preparing their food is through simmering, frying, grilling, stewing and steaming. Bali Island is the home of the famous cuisine – the cooked duck & babi guling or pig.

- Sundanese or ‘Orang Sunda’ is popular in West Java are fond of eating fresh vegetables and ‘sambal’. They also love to drink tea without sugar. So if they offer you one, don’t forget to ask for sugar.
- Javanese are opposite to Sundanese. They like to eat sweets. So basically their Teas will be sweet.
- Padang in West Sumtra likes to eat those hot and spicy foods. They are widely known for their spicy foods and their fast delivery service. ‘Rumah Makan Padang’ also known as the Padang restaurant is everywhere in the country.
