ACTIVITIES GUIDE IN INDONESIA


Surfing

Indonesia is known as one of the best surfing destinations in the entire world, with its enormous array of waves with perfect uncrowned breaks. When looking for the ultimate surfing experience, the best known waves can be found on Sumatra’s Nias, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, G’ Land / Grajagan on Java, Flores and Sumba. Bali’s Ulu Watu and other famous surfing beaches in the archipelago would be jam – packed with tourists, locals, surfing and snorkeling enthusiasts especially during the peak months from April to around September.

Don’t forget to bring in your own board, helmet, a padded board – bag, sun – block, thin suit and plenty of iodine. And enjoy!

Driving

Indonesia has the most of number of best diving sites of the world. One of the best is the Palau Bunaken at Sulawesi. There’s an immense variety of tropical coral and fish that is complemented by the visibility that can reach to more than 30m. Bali has the most number of diving sites like the very popular Liberty wreck; Lombok’s very own Gili Islands and Senggigi; and Kalimantan’s Pulau Derawan. The most excellent time for a diving exploration is between the months of April to October.

A day’s diving package would include: lunch, two tanks, and the equipment costs of about $30 - $100 USD. Don’t forget to inquire about the dive operator’s reputation, check on their PADI or any accreditation and also get some personal recommendations from other divers. And of course, it is your responsibility to check on your own rented equipment and check you’re your dive guide’s credentials very thoroughly.

Climbing

Indonesia has the best climbing location ever – Sumatra Island! For those mountain climbing aficionados check this great locations: Gunung Padang, which is located near the capital of the island, is an undersized black basalt cliff that can be reached by a river – paddling trip and followed by a walk through the thick rainforest. There is also bother great location for climbers, Bukittinggi which offers such challenging cliffs that is overlooking the beautiful scenic of rice paddies. There is also the Harau National Park’s canyon rocks that should only be tried by those highly experienced climbers.

Caving

The country has the most accessible caves that are located in the island of Java like Luweng Jaran which stretched to more than 125 miles or 20 km just under the Gunung Seuw’s mountain range; Gua Barat has the most longest underground river system; and there’s Gombong, which has stone that towers to about 132 ft or 40 m above sea level.

Don’t miss the spectacular torrents that can also be experienced at Citartik River, Sadan River and Alas River. These white waters are usually at their strongest during the months of November to March. There are also river tours that available especially for beginners so that they can learn to appreciate the beauty of the sport.

Trekking

The whole country has about 120 active volcanoes and a lot of volcano trails such as Krakatoa, which is located in Java and it can only be reached through using a five – hour boat ride and then a 30 – minute climb; there’s Mount Bromo, which is the most popular volcano in the country; and there’s Kawah Ijen, which crater is full of turquoise – blue lake. There are still a lot of treks that hikers can fully enjoy like the Gunung Agung or also known as Navel of the World, Keli Mulu and Gunung Rinjani. Jungle trekking through the think dense Indonesian rainforest is also quite popular in the country. Majority of the routes would require a guide not only for finding the paths but also for turning up at remote villages can definitely cause trouble.
